Tea tree oil comes from the Australian paperbark tree and has been used traditionally as a folk remedy by Australian aborigines. There are close to 300 varieties of Melaleuca alternifolia (the Latin name for the tea tree), but only one produces the medicinal oil.

Tea tree oil has been used to treat mouth ulcers and abscesses, conjunctivitis, acne, boils, impetigo, psoriasis, dandruff, vaginitis, thrush, septic wounds, cuts and abrasions, carbuncles, pus-filled infections, and ringworm.

This is a very versatile product of nature and has the distinction of being a germicide, fungicide and antiseptic all in one! More recently, Tea Tree Oil is being recognized worldwide for commercial uses in many products including shampoos, creams, acne treatments, suppositories, household cleaning, baby care products, massage formulas, foot balms, deodorants, bath oils, sunscreens, insect repellants, toothpaste, mouthwash, soaps and veterinary products".

SUGGESTED USES:

ACNE: Acne is usually caused by hormonal changes and overly active sebaceous (oil) glands that commonly occurs in the teenage years, however it can affect people in adult life as well. Zits, pimples, acne, cystic skin eruptions, blackheads and white heads all fit into the skin disaster family. Apply two drops of oil to infected area three times daily. Most effective when one first notices a pimple coming on. It is also very useful to apply after one pops or is popped to help speed healing. It is strong, so keep away from eyes.

MOUTH ULCERS:Mouth ulcers or aphthous ulcers are tiny open sores which develop in the mouth, on the tongue, the roof of the mouth, on the mucus membrane inside the lips and cheeks, and in the grooves between gums and cheeks. It starts as a burning and tingling sensation and a slight swelling of the site. The center of each ulcer is white, surrounded by an inflamed red border, which is tender to the touch. Ulcers can last from two days to three weeks; they heal spontaneously leaving no scar. Mouth ulcers could be caused by a mild virus infection, but some research shows ulcers are brought on by a state of anxiety or emotional stress. While having mouth ulcers, avoid acid or spicy foods that can cause more pain, hard foods, coffee, smoking and alcohol. A cotton bud dipped in Tea Tree oil can be applied neat to the ulcer for immediate relief. As a mouthwash use 5ml salt and 2 drops of Tea Tree oil in 500 ml warm boiled water.

WARTS: A small round tumour of the skin, caused by a viral infection. The Latin name verruca is applied to those which appear on the soles of the feet.Apply two drops to top of wart three times daily. Use oil until condition clears.
